UncategorizedCovid-19 and Your Pet Nurse

The effects of Covid-19 on small business has been paralyzing. In March as the virus spread and lockdown was on the horizon it became clear that my little pet sitting and pet care business would not be immune and sadly was also going to be placed on hold. There was a tidal wave of cancellations and each one hit like a punch in the stomach. I was then faced with an empty diary and the reality of home-schooling.

So, in line with government guidelines I temporarily shut down and had to sit tight, hoping and wishing that one day soon I could resume normal service. I focused on taking care of my family, keeping us all safe, daily dog walks and working through the home learning tasks set by the school.

3 months later as our lives are slowly adjusting to the ‘new normal’ and my children have returned to their classrooms, I have implemented a Covid-19 plan with guidance from HSE https://www.hse.gov.uk/ and from the government https://www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/homes so I can safely get back to the work I love the most.

And here they are….

What to expect and keeping everyone safe

1. I will carry out a risk assessment prior to every visit. Identifying sensible measures to control the risks within your home.

2. I will reduce the risk to the lowest reasonable level by:

Frequent handwashing

Sterilising equipment

Working side by side rather than face to face where possible

Wearing a face mask and gloves

3. I will not visit homes where anyone has symptoms, is self-isolating or is shielding from the virus

4. I will make contact beforehand to discuss what will happen during my visit, including:

Keeping 1 metre plus apart as much as possible

Keeping windows and doors open as much as possible

Limit the number of people I come in to contact with during my visit to one.

5. Please inform me straight away if you have any symptoms of Covid-19 or have come in to contact with someone with Covid-19. I will do the same.

With these new protocols in place, I can now get back to doing what I love, albeit a bit different, but safety must come first. If you would like to arrange a home visit, please get in touch so we can arrange a safe meeting.

With the luxury of time on my hands I had a unique opportunity to reflect on what I had achieved so far and set some goals for the future. This includes introducing a couple of new services which I’ve been considering for some time…

Loyalty Memberships offering a discount on block bookings of Kitty Petticures. Please ask me for more information.

Pet Loss Support working together to build a toolbox for your grief. Counselling sessions in your home following the loss of a pet. More information coming soon or get in touch if you feel this is something that might benefit you.

I also enjoyed many many lovely long dog walks which inspired me to finally get going with making my first podcast! This is definitely one of those things that I always put off, it was never a priority but it was always on my mind. So, here is a link to my rather amateur attempt at episode 1 Dog walking for mind body and soul. I’d love to have some feedback and hear your ideas for topics.

Episode 2 is in the pipeline too; The highs and lows of having a puppy in lockdown.

Finally I have a reward for my dog-owning clients! Over lockdown I was approached by these guys and I’m now an ambassador for Butternutbox Dog food, a delicious home-cooked, UK based dog food company. They are a really friendly, ethical company and my dog LOVES it!

But don’t just take my word for it, they are 5 star rated on Trustpilot too. The food is 60% meat, made with all-natural ingredients and Red Tractor approved. And delivered for free!

Using my unique link entitles you to 2 WEEKS FREE dog food no commitment, no catch. Cancel, pause or skip anytime. Click my link, then tap on Build Your Box fill in the short form and your doggies fresh frozen food will be delivered direct to your door. All for FREE! Let me know how you get on with it… (copy and paste link in to your browser)

I look forward to visiting you all soon. Stay safe.

Visiting a kitty in St Leonard’s this morning, wearing my mask and gloves. I also change my tunic between each visit 😻…
